“When a young man’s estranged father is killed under suspicious circumstances, he returns home for the first time in years to get to the bottom of the mystery. Hoping to uncover some logical explanation, he instead finds an army of flesh-eating squirrels hellbent on destroying everything in their path.”
This is synopsis for the 2014 film Squirrels, a Squirrel Horror Movie.
The teaser clip for Squirrels – tipped by some websites as the new Sharknado – features an unfortunate young girl who almost meets a sticky end when she tries to feed a nut to one of the bushy-tailed creatures in a park.
But while things take a spooky turn when hundreds of the little critters begin to descent from the trees, the tagline – ‘hold on to your nuts’ – together with some interestingly cheap looking squirrel effects, suggests a tongue-in-cheek shocker could be on the cards.
Squirrels is currently being developed by director Timur Bekmambetov, whose previous efforts also included Night Watch and the 2008 action thriller Wanted which starred Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy.
The synopsis goes on to reveal that the critters are set on ‘destroying everything in their path due to an erosion of their food chain as a result of environmental destruction by the gas company.’
But as tantalising as it sounds moviegoers may have to wait a while for this one, given that the film is still seeking funding to get off the ground – while no cast has yet been attached either.
