MIT’s Greatest Gift To The Lazy Is The BeerBot

Posted on August 28, 2015February 2, 2020 by AKS

Are you a work-shy person? Do you like just sitting on the couch and playing video games or watching movies all day without having to get up even for a drink? Well, the students from MIT have invented a great gift for you. The Beerbots! These scientific companions will fetch beer for you while you remain comfortably seated on your couch.

The Beerbots were invented by a group of students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). There working is easy enough to understand. Basically there are two components of the Beerbots system; the “turtlebots” and the “bartender”. The turtlebots are essentially the waiters/waitresses who take orders from you and deliver them to the bartender who tends the bar and mixes the drinks. The turtlebots then deliver those drinks to you, wherever you are seated. Could this be any better?

Jokes aside, this system can have some more practical applications as well. The students who invented the beerbots intend to use the same algorithm to program the robots and test them in rescue situations.beerbots 4 Their application could range from hospital use as well but search and rescue seems to be the more practical one. However, until such an algorithm is developed, we surely wouldn’t mind a nice chilled beer served right to us on our couch, would we? For now, that’s all the beerbots can do.

Pass it on!
