The wait is finally over for sports car fans because the 2016 Mazda just made its debut in Monterey, California. This year marks the 25th anniversary for the car. It holds the title as the best selling, and most economical roadster of all time.
The Japanese automaker has described the new MX-5 Miata as a combination of the classic roadster with a totally modern design and state-of-the-art technology. The new sleek body and design is the Miata’s biggest jump in terms of styling from generation to generation. The company wanted to give the Miata a much higher quality feel to the interior while remaining an excellence on the road. Overall, the new Miata is the most compact of any generation MX-5 and is over 220 pounds lighter than the current model. The one and most important thing the automaker did not reveal, was what’s hiding under the hood, how powerful is this monster?
Derek Jenkins, the Mazda Design Director said “….in the new car we hopefully have found that balance with a design that is dramatic yet still reminiscent of the original concept”. The MX-5’s new nose is lower than previous models yet it has a much more sharper, dramatic look. The car is wider which will enhance the car’s cornering stability and it will make it easier to handle. Jenkins goes on to describe the MX-5 as if he’s describing a woman, drawing attention to the reworked hips and dramatic rear taper out back. The sports car is set to be outfitted with a SKYACTIV-MT 6-speed gearbox connected to a SKYACTIV-G direct injection petrol powered engine which is going to make this car super fast. There has been no word on pricing , but the new 2016 MX-5 is set to be available in North America sometime in 2015. There is a warning attached to this car, “IT’S ADDICTIVE”.
