Goodnight Lad – An Augmented Reality Children’s Book

Posted on February 19, 2015 by S. Farrukh

There’s nothing like cuddling up with a good book at bedtime, but not everyone feels the same way.  They prefer digital books-books that are animated.  A new children’s book has been developed called “Goodnight Lad” which combines two ways of storytelling, technology with paper.  This is being called and “augmented reality” book.

Kids don’t have the same interest in reading anymore-social media is taking that away so the creators of “Goodnight Lad” want kids to fall in love with reading and leaning again.  Let’s not distract our kids with smartphones, let’s encourage them.  The device consists of two components, the book itself and the app.  The book is a simple illustrated children’s book, but when you point your smartphone camera at it while using the app, the pages come alive.  The animations, characters sit up, move around and magically take your child to another world.  The book has thirty two pages full of animations.

The app will be available for both iOS and Android users.  The books is 5×5 inches and is board style and the story revolves around a boy named Logan who won’t go to bed.  The project is being crowdfunded on Kickstarter.  You can get a copy of the book and accompanying app for $20.  Shipping is scheduled to start in June.
