5 reasons why Christian Bale should not return as ‘The Dark Knight’
5. He has denied it multiple times.
“We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three. That’s enough. Lets not get greedy,”
“It’s a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with.”
These are quotes directly from him. Now if he decides to come back as the Dark knight, he would have to give an amazing explanation as to why he did. But like always it will be chalked down to “Amazing Story”.
4. It wont make sense with the ‘Dark Knight Trilogy’
TDKR ending will not make sense, if the same Batman is with Superman. Why did he come back? what happened to Joseph Gordon-Levitt(Did he become robin)? How is Bruce Wayne alive did he not supposedly die at the end? Now other then the obvious questions, the main problem is the mechanics of this Universe compared with Man of steel’s Universe. TDK universe is a lot more grounded, then the Man of steel, they would have to give a lot of explanation how the two match. Aliens, and Superpowers, they would be difficult to digest with the same Batman.
3. Continuity and Time line.
Continuity will be a major problem. Where were they? when one of them needed help? What was superman doing when Batman was in a prison, fighting for his life? or where was Batman when Aliens landed on Earth and started destroying Metropolis. Although it can all be solved by a brilliant script and story. It will still a pretty big jump from reality and story wise it will be a ruse.
2. The Villains
What villain it would take for Superman and Batman to team up? I assume Lex luthor from Superman side, although there are others like Mettalo, Braniac, Bizarro. But on the Batman side? Joker, Bane, Clayface, Black Mask, Ra’s al Ghul. This where the problem arises, the list of Batman villains I just gave 3 of them would have already made an appearance. It would cause repetition, to bring back the best villains Batman has already defeated before.
1. The Joker
This is one of my biggest problems with Christian Bale returning as Batman, is that the Joker’s portrayal by Heath Ledger in TDK was the best. Period. Now when you get the Christian Bale’s Batman with Superman, sooner or later the Joker has to make an appearance. But if you get some other actor to play the same Joker, it would degrade the character. As we all know the Joker is the polar opposite of Batman, so he is a must in the films. This problem can be solved by having another Batman, and another Joker. Thus removing any confusion, and comparison.
These are the reasons why a new Batman, who will be without any baggage or history, will be the perfect choice for the upcoming movie. and even though I love Christian Bale as Batman, I think his movies should be standalone and not be touched. A New Batman can be a fresh start and be more adaptable to the Man of steel’s Universe.
