Why do we love Detroit Auto Show? It is because of the great vehicles we get to witness and that too at one place. This year, the Detroit Auto Show hosted the second generation Chrysler 200.This car is speculated to become a contender among the sedan category; mid-size, which is known as the most competitive category.
With this revelation Chrysler has stepped up to the place which was being owned by Audi, Ford, Subaru and Cadillac; a place where these companies offer to the customers sedans which are mid-sized and support all-wheel drive.
President of Chrysler, Al Greenwald, said; ‘The design of the 200 debuts the new face of Chrysler’. Well it is new for sure since the Chrysler 200 claims to come with 64 safety features and has claims of delivering a highway fuel economy of 35 mpg. Speaking of the design we can think of only one word; elegant. The design is understated and is intensified by LED daytime running lamps, tail lamps and the fog lamps which have been incorporated into the design. The 200-S model which is somewhat towards the higher end comes with quite cool gloss black trim and accents, exhaust which is dual, black colored wheels and spoiler handling. Quite impressive, don’t you think?
Chrysker 200 shares the platform with Dodge Dart, Jeep Cherokee and Alfa Romeo Giulietta. It has also benefited a lot from the tweaking and experiments which were carried out with is predecessors and the result is apparent in fit, finish and powertrain which are all quite refined! Spokesperson for Chrysler, Kathy Graham, while complimenting the latest model, said; ‘This car is the result of what we learned working on those vehicles. Everything’s better.’ According to Kathy, the car comes equipped with the latest technology and is available in unique trim levels.
Let’s see what’s under the hood, shall we? The car comes with two powertrains; 3.6 Liter V-6 which boasts of a horsepower of 295hp and a torque of 262 lb-ft and a 2.4-Liter inline-4 which is capable of 183 Hp and a torque of 173 lb-ft. The new automatic transmission (9-speed) is capable of providing about 13 percent gain in fuel economy while also accounting for performance gains – a speculation though. The base of the center console has the Audi-like rotary knob shifter which is what the user uses to the control the gearbox.
Chrysler has a slogan; Made in Detroit and they have stressed on their slogan in a peculiar way; they went ahead and imprinted the skyline of Motor City in the floor-mats. Now to the question of price and the answer is; Chrysler 200 will kick off with a price tag of $22,000 for the base model and destination is covered in this price. The car will be available around mid of 2014 and will come in four different models; Limited, S Model, C Models and the LX.
Sergio Marchionne is quite hopeful and said; ‘We’re expecting big numbers. It’s in a brand new, fully robotic plant and it’s a great car.’ We wish Chrysler good luck!
